Arrowtown,
born of gold in 1862, was once a thriving gold mining town.
Arrowtown today still reflects the rich heritage of its beginnings.
Arrowtown is situated just 20km north of Queenstown, in New Zealand's
South Island.
Each
autumn Arrowtown's
trees
put on a show of colour amongst the most spectacular in the world.
Come
and be part of the Scenery!!
We have some of the
most amazing scenery in the country during Autumn so come and
join us to celebrate this wonderful time of the year.
The 2008 Arrowtown
Autumn Festival is so jam packed with events we have had to add
another day so now it's an 11 day festival.
The Festival dates
are
Thursday 24th April
- Sunday 4th May
With our Main Festival day on
Saturday 26th April
This is during the school holidays so there is
plenty on the festival programme to keep everyone happy. Young
and the young at heart! With the community at the heart of the
festival the programme reflects this with fantastic workshops
in cooking, writing, circo arts plus skateboarding. The idea is
to get kids involved and actively participating to learn new skills
while having a great time!
All the old favourites are back with the Miners
Band and Buckingham Belles, plus Senior Citizens Afternoon
Tea and Arrow Entertainers Musical.
The Main Festival day held on Saturday 26th April
is shaping up to be huge with the market brimming with bargains.
The main stage has a huge mix of wonderful local entertainment
with 2 piece band Middle Earth starting off the day followed
by NZ Haka then the Celtic Sounds adding a wonderful
mix of traditional with modern day.
Then Look Skyward is it a Bird? No it's a Plane!!
Yes the guys from Actionflite
are back again to dazzle us with their turns and aerobatic maneuvers
-this is the perfect way to start the festival parade.
This year we are also celebrating 75 years of
the Arrowtown Volunteer Fire Brigade and they will be turning
up the heat to showcase some wonderful safety demonstrations along
with old fashioned fire engines.
